Working in areas of multiple deprivation FSN has sought to support the most disadvantaged children and families — often with complex needs with an holistic non stigmatising approach

FSN
was founded in 1939 to
provide
homes for boys and later girls, whose parents, for various reasons were
unable to look after them. From 1939 to 1985 FSN ran several small homes
with up to 12 children living in them with house parents bringing them
up often alongside their own children.
With
its memorandum and articles registered in 1942 FSN registered as a charity
in 1962. Working within the aims and objectives agreed, FSN developed
a range of residential services between 1985 and 1991 and then went on
to develop a range of children’s, young people and family support services
based in community buildings in the heart of some of the most disadvantaged
areas in
East Sussex.

In
1999 FSN celebrated its Diamond
Jubilee year by completing on the purchase and refurbishment of the
St. Nicholas Centre which is now its registered office. From this secure base FSN has grown to be leading provider in Hastings and Rother for family support work.

A
range of highly innovative projects have been developed over the years
to support children and young people with their families
and in their communities. FSN opened the first ‘After School Club’, first
Fun Bus, and the first and only bereavement service for children and young
people in East Sussex.
