PACT delivers a Level 2 City and Guilds qualification in "Work with Parents (3599)", with volunteering opportunities to support local families with their children's learning and development through play

The PACCT course will provide you with essential skills and knowledge to work effectively with parents by completing three units:

  • Relations with parents

  • Supporting parents to gain knowledge

  • Supporting parents to meet children's needs

    PACT Volunteers will be expected to gain relevant work experience by supporting a local family during the course.

PACT (Parents and Children Together) is a new volunteer training programme. We train parent/carers to become volunteers who will go on to provide support for families in the Hastings and St Leonards areas through home visiting, promoting the importance of play in their children’s learning and development.

Families receive support in their own home (or at a Drop in Group if preferred) from a volunteer who has experience as a parent themselves and who has also received training in child development.  They will engage with the family to understand how ‘play’ forms an important part of children’s learning, sharing good practice for improving communication skills with children, and providing stimulating ideas for new and interesting activities to promote children’s self-confidence and independence (school readiness). Support is suitable for families with children from 0-5 years.

Volunteers train towards achieving a Level 2 City and Guilds qualification – Award in Work With Parents (3599).  The qualification comprises 3 units;

* Support parents to meet their children’s needs

* Support parents to gain knowledge and access information and services

* Build and maintain relationships with parents

These units are completed over an 18 week programme (4 hour session per week).  The Award in Work with Parents (3599) accreditation complements other qualifications such as Childcare or Health and Social Care.

FREE childcare is available alongside the training; however volunteers are expected to manage their own childcare requirements during their volunteering.

Volunteers are expected to volunteer for a minimum of 20 hours during/following training

(2 families for a duration of approx. 10 weeks, 1 hour per week)  Supporting a family during the training programme is an essential part of completing the qualification and provides relevant and up to date experience for those wishing to update skills or retrain before returning to work.
