St. Nick's Nursery is in the grounds of St. Nicholas Centre and offers 70 quality care and education places. The Nursery has a warm, secure and bright environment where, through play and creative activities, children will grow in confidence and develop to their greatest potential. Children are supported and encouraged to learn through play using the 'Early Years Foundation Stage' curriculum.  We are able to offer extra support for families who have children with additional needs attending our nursery. (see link at the foot of this page).

We are a flexible, free-flow and very child-centered nursery, encouraging all of our children to be independent and confident learners. Our small team of qualified staff are motivated, keen, friendly, and have a wide range of experience. Children and families benefit from a close parent-partnership ethos and a highly important key person system so all of the children's interests and needs are at the centre of our care and practice.

Before each child starts we offer each family a home visit to really get to know your child, along with a careful settling in process into the nursery.

We understand that parents and carers are children's first and foremost educators and we work in partnership to really meet your child's needs. Parents/Carers are always welcome to help out in the setting with activities such as cooking, sharing stories and on outings.

The children enjoy special projects in their local environment including trips to our local park and beach. Children take part in "Beach School" where they can learn from the natural environment and enjoy setting up camp, balancing across shingle and exploring coastal flora and fauna. We like to take the children on trips that relate to their current interest which helps to build their learning and look to parents/carers to help on these occasions. We focus on stimulating activities that will help prepare your child for school, including TALL groups and Letters and Sound groups. Our nursery is a calm place for children to explore using all their senses.

Forest School - a trained practitioner takes a small group of children to a local school where a wooded area has been set up so the children can explore safely and can use tools within this environment.

Our "Full of Beans" project develops children's understanding of keeping healthy. Children enjoy planting and watering in our growing garden and taking part in cooking activities from around the world.

Healthy and nutritional snacks are provided in the day but parents / carers should provide a healthy packed lunch/baby milk and nappies, if required.

We work closely with local schools to ensure a smooth transition for each child.
